Are Success and Purpose Connected?
We’re used to hearing stories about South Asian success: earning wealth, titles, and recognition.
Dr. Abraham George had all of that, yet none of it brought him purpose.
“The pursuit of wealth and recognition no longer felt like a worthy endpoint.”
It’s a striking realization in a world that rewards material gains. Yet, many of us feel that our lives lack purpose and wonder about the meaning of life.
Dr George wasn’t any different. When he embarked on a quest to find a deeper purpose in life, he arrived at a powerful conclusion: a meaningful life is shaped not by what you gain, but by what you give.

Dr. George couldn’t stand seeing the poverty, injustice, and inequality around him anymore. He decided to face it head-on. He built a hospital, led initiatives to remove lead from gasoline, and founded Shanti Bhavan, a free boarding school for children who were born into extreme poverty.
In Mountains to Cross, Dr. George recounts his decision to dedicate his life to service and the obstacles he had to overcome. Throughout the book, a deeper story unfolds about finding purpose and meaning in life.
“I offer my story not as a blueprint for service but as an invitation to consider your path of purpose to find joy and a world surrounded by compassion.”
